DBN trip to NY month and time of week poll

The only thing that is stopping me from committing to a date is work. I could say now that I want a week off in June, but when the time gets closer, I may not get it.
So making plans and spending money of something I might not be able to get off for doesn't really make sense. I would probably have to make the decision a week or so before the date. If I would go, I would stay with my cousin, she lives in Brooklyn.. how far from the studio is that? I really don't know shit about New York.

Anywhere in Brooklyn is a good location to get to the studio.

Well the only thing that is holding me back is time off from work. If I have a free place to stay.. the trip really wouldn't cost too much. Rental car would probably be my biggest expense. I don't want to take mine that gets about 16mpg, would probably make up the difference in gas renting a compact.

I would ocmpare the cost of a rental/gas and tolls with just flying. might be cheaper.

Hotel cost is the big thing, so your set, you could do a three days trip for a few hundred. Flights out of PGH can be less than $200 often.

I put a vote in for June midweek. Seeing as though we already have so many from the other forum who are willing to come at that time, I felt this would be the best choice. I think it would be awesome to have a large group of listeners from both forums all in New York at the same time whether it be the mid-week in June or even that weekend. It looks as though at least a few other people here would be able to make it mid-week in June.

With that said, I am going to go ahead and announce the dates of June 8-10 on the show today to be the dates for the official "2010 C&R Forum Dudebro/Nussy Convention." We've had these dates in mind for a while now, and a large number of people said that these dates worked. I'd like to give people the opportunity to make plans now. I will mention that this may expand over to the weekend (we can do a Friday show visit) for people that can't come for the mid-week dates. Hopefully that will include some of you if that's when you can make it. I'll be in New York the whole week, so if you all decide to do that weekend, I will be around. I'd certainly like to meet all of you that can come.

If you all decide on another time to come, then it can be planned separately. I'd like everyone to be there at the same time, but I know scheduling stuff can be hard with other conflicts and/or family concerns. I wouldn't be able to come due to the extra cost, plus that would be "NY overkill" for me, haha. So, if another date works better for the posters on this forum, that's OK. I will keep monitoring this thread to see what you have decided on.

I just want to get the ball rolling on this and let listeners who don't visit the forums know that this is going to happen and that a date is set where lots of people that listen, call in, and participate in the show will be there. I'll be happy if everyone that wants to come can get there at one time or another.

I will be at the "official" one with stacks of DBN flyers, cards and multimedia as well. It will be a recruiting trip for me as well as a fun trip. I just hope some more of you show up those days to help me make Josh cry.

Ha, well, that's OK with me. I just want as many people to show up as possible. If there is a separate date set for this forum, maybe I'll change my mind about coming twice. It would get expensive for me though. You won't have to worry about me bringing C&R forum paraphernalia, ha.

A few people have said that C&R may not be available during the weekend and thats why we need to do it during the week. What's up with that? Why don't we ask the guys if they can do a weekend thing? Hell, as long as I get to chill out at the studio on Friday I don't care what else happens.

Not to be a dick or anything, but if the guys don't want to stick around on a Friday to hang out than I really don't want to spend the money to go to NY. I'd rather not feel like they're hanging out because they feel like they have to. (Kinda like when JIW and Jerkman visit)

I understand your concerns, and I don't think you're being a dick at all. The point is (to me) that it's all about people meeting C&R and meeting each other second. That appears to be the main difference in philosophy between a mid-week meeting and a weekend meeting.

I did not want to stop C&R from living their normal lives with this event. We all know Covino isn't around on the weekends. If he were always in NYC like he used to be, I would have surely went with weekend dates. But things are different now. He has a family on the other side of the US, and he travels to see them every week. I feel we are in no position to ask him to forget his family for a weekend to meet with us. Family always comes first. Therefore, since he works in NY during the week (at least he was...now it seems like he's going back and forth week to week), it made more sense to me to plan around that and meet during the week. I understand that makes it harder on our end. But still, the show is not a mandatory thing...it's something we enjoy listening to with our time. If you really want to be involved, you have to make some concessions as it's not something you are required to do.

It's moderately easier to make a meeting of only forum members when they all live close together, but it can still be a pain. I've done it several times before, and people still end up not finding a good day to do the meeting, or they back out at the last minute. Once you find a good group of people who are committed to the date, you go with it. I had that, so I went forward.

My only contention is that this could have been discussed more in depth any time in the past month as I was going in between the forums from time to time. I tried to come in when I got an email saying the thread had been replied to. I also had family medical issues to deal with over the holidays and early January which didn't help. The original thread here has been up for 9 months, and no one was making a decision. I made a decision that worked for a lot of people; it can be taken, left, or added to. As I continue to say, if you want to expand this out to the weekend, then we'll add the days. If people want to head up to the show on Friday, that would definitely work. I just wouldn't expect C&R to be around or be able to hang out. Since I want C&R to also be involved with the group, I felt a mid-week meeting worked best. It's that simple.

OK, I updated the poll, took the top three answers from the last one and narrowed it down for the DBN trip to NYC.

June midweek was the top answer, then June weekend and the third was May weekend.

PLEASE vote again and we will settle on a date based on the results of this poll.
