Heres a list of all the churches in a town that has less than 8000 people. I can stand somewhere on my property and hit 3 of them with a baseball. Seems a little much to me.
I can't get a gosh darn 99 cent burrito from taco bell without driving 60 miles, but I cant hardly walk around without being accosted by someone inviting me to their church.
Fellowship, goodwill, and a common belief between people is one thing, but to make a business out of it, and use scare tactics to make people pay into something that isn't regulated is crazy.
I never said there wasn't wacky "religions" out there. But those cults aren't the places I am talking about. It is a sad thing that those places turn people off to real religion by brain-washing them.
The churches around here are pretty good though. Never has there been any scandal from them, and they all help the community. I just think taxing wouldn't be a big deal to church.
Many churches near me are struggling to stay open. The church I was baptized at is going to close in a month or so. ad:

My take on the taxing churches thing:
I understand why churches were tax exempt in the past. 100 years ago, they truly were churches and not money making machines like many are now.
There are a lot of churches, especially in the south, that use God as a way to get rich. That I do not agree with.
Now if there are churches being used like Beckster said, then I do not think they should be taxed. A church like the one LeNeve posted a picture of, should be taxed. Were god and Jesus not all about being humble? Then why do we need flashy churches that look like Mark Cuban's cabana playroom?
I would impose a flat tax, maybe 2% to 5% that all churches have to pay. I have no issue with that. Then I think it needs to depend on the profitability of the church. If the church is 2 years old and cost $10mill to build, maybe they need to pay some freaking taxes. Make it a sliding scale with a harsh itemization policy. The "churches" bringing in millions, should pay the highest percentage, maybe around 35% to 40%.
Also, you can no longer create your own church at home to use as a tax ahelter.
What scares me about taxing churches is exactly what Chip said. The liberals will not decrease any of our taxes as a result of any new found church tax money, our taxes will keep going up as the fucking liberals are still in office. Yet the ninja down the street will still get his $1000 check and $800 in food stamps for sitting on his ass and smoking pot all day.
This increased tax revenue would only make the tax happy liberals create more big government do nothing worthless jobs, that they can brag about making more jobs out of, when it is really just another overpaid government worker, sitting at a desk, playing mine sweeper while performing little to no relative function that assists us, the taxpayer. The LAST thing we need is more government jobs. Now if they used that newfound money to research cancer, pay hard working women at least 6 months of maternity leave, create a REAL healthcare system that would benefit ALL of us and not just the lazy or even pay down the fucking deficit, then that would be WHO HAH fucking great. The problem is, the liberals will do NONE OF THAT. They will take the money and help those that are not WILLING to help themselves or do not have the desire to help themselves, then they will create government "jobs" for their liberal fucking tit swinging friends to milk until people with a fucking brain come in and cut the fat, sending those do nothing "workers" out on their asses.
So what I mean is, yes, small 2% to 5% tax on all churches. MUCH larger tax for the moneymaking churches.

There is a set of "twins" like that that I recently saw doing in a porn picture giving a blow job and taking a facial. Might be a different set...

beckster aka Tatertits Wrote:LeNeve Wrote:beckster aka Tatertits Wrote:Pete Nice Wrote:So WHY does everyoen think churches should be taxed?
I don't think that at all. Churches are the backbone to most charities. And there are a lot of areas/people who need those services that they provide. There have been instances of people going through trauma, such as their home burning down or sick child or what have you.. I have seen the local churches be the first ones to step up and help those people out. Now that people tend to not go to church as often, that is going to be more difficult to accomplish. Add taxes to them and say good bye.
How about mega church. Somehow I think they can afford to pay some tax
When the pastor/whatever is driving a Benz. I do question whether it is a real church. But I grew up helping put food baskets together for the poor and collecting clothes and such for local families in need. That's what church really is. I know quite a few ministers who make an average salary, and drive nice cars or have beautiful homes.
The reason that happens is cause they are responsible with their money, they make wise investments and dont live a life where they piss their money away on frivolous things

The priest who baptised me was a Franciscan Priest. They take a vow of poverty and that is how they live their lives. They only receive enough money to pay for the very basics (food mostly, since the church supplies their residence and vehicle). Maybe more pastors/reverends/etc should look into that lifestyle. The Priest I knew only possessed a computer and a watch. People would buy im gifts often, but what he'd do is keep the item for a month or 2 and then give it away (to be polite). I still have his watch. He was totally one of the greatest human beings I ever knew, people who didn't know him were drawn to him.
Any way, Maybe these other megachurches need to reevaluate what they are doing and consider the fact that a huge salary doesn't make a guy a good preacher.
