so I was watching the MNF game last night, and was pissed at the Saints for running up the score late for Brees to get the record......then I didn't care....Reason?

if anyone remember the "Katrina Game" a few years ago, the guy Steve Gleason who blocked the punt (possible the biggest play in saints history) was on the sideline and having a moment with Drew Brees. Then the announcers said he has ALS (Lou Gherigs disease) and I know what that means. you essentially have 2 years to completely physically fall apart and die.

And I was glad he was there to enjoy the moment with his teammates, cause he may never get to enjoy the games again. ad:

When did this "take the week between Christmas and New Years off" thing start? Who gets enough vacation time to take summer vacation, family trips and still take off a week in the winter? Are companies paying people vacation days to take this entire week off?

just depends on the company, or when people take their vacation time.

I'm usually off at this time. Always take Christmas to new years off.

Non retail companies should all give this week off paid for people to recharge their batteries so they can work hard in the new year. Take OT volunteers to cover skeleton crew needs. American companies are so fucking greedy, they don't realize this shit. In Europe, most jobs start w/ 6 weeks vacation and get plenty of paid holiday's off time. And for the most part, people are happier there and have more time for themselves.

But I agree, a minimum of 2 weeks is what every company should give. Not including a specified amount of proven sick days, and your traditional holidays like Christmas and things like memorial day

I think 2 weeks is even too low, maybe 2 weeks the first year, then minimum 4 weeks after the first year all the way up to 10 weeks at 10 years.

My friend Tom moved to Switzerland and took a job in supply chain management. He started at 6 weeks vacation and over 60k euros per year with sick days, paid holidays and a top notch benefit program. He stated that is the norm for all jobs he looked at, and not just at his level, but at lower income levels also.

He also stated that they work 8 hours a day, no OT and do not take work home. They are happier, have stronger family bonds, get to spend more time to themselves and work harder when they are at work as a result.

Most people in America do not work as hard as they could, resulting in the need for OT and long hours, or taking work home. This is b/c most people in America are not happy at work or with what they are provided by work. I love my job, pay is decent, a good living, but the benefits SUCK ASS. If my company took the money they saved in FEDEX costs and 8mm/audio tapes when they went completely digital with dropboxes and put that $5mill a year + into more vacation, paid holidays and good health insurance, they would get better work and lower turnover rates out of the current group of workers. Instead that money went to line pockets of those at the top.

Its modified free market (social market system) which is pretty much what Canada uses. Although I wish our government would take a more active stance on our vacation times. It seems to be working our for us
