DBN trip to NYC

DaveP Wrote:Being from southwest PA.. is it worth it to drive there? Am I going to pay out the ass to park my car for a few days?

I once drove from New Castle to NJ to NY (Brooklyn specifically). The drive wasn't bad, but the people that broke into my car on the street were. I will never drive there again, but that's personal preference. I'm not sure what parking would cost in the city...probably upwards of $25 a day if not more. Unless you have someone to stay with you're going to need lodging anyway, so my suggestion is to fly and take the subway to get around.

My normal plan for going to NYC is to fly (normally I can get a flight for between $120 and $160 depending on any special fares the airlines run) and then stay with a friend who lives in Brooklyn. If some dudebros would provide lodging to others that'd be cool, but you'd have to talk that over. Hotels outside Manhattan (depending how good they are) are probably around $70-$100 a night if you're lucky. The price doubles the closer you get to Manhattan, so if you want a nice place use Priceline to get a deal.

June 8th is a Tuesday to June 10th, which is a Thursday.

That mid week might be a killer for a lot of people.

I need some input here. What do you guys think about the midweek deal? It will make hotels cheaper but you will have to take off work.

I would actually prefer Thursday June 3rd to Sunday June 6th. I think that would be almost ideal.

Here is what I need:

1. What are your thoughts on June 8-10. Can you do it?

2. If not can you do June 3rd to 6th?

Please be honest. If you can make the midweek, I would rather both forums attend at the same time. But if we have to split off from those dates, we can.

I never assumed it would be midweek, which kind of throws a wrench into things.

I know the mid-week dates are a little harder to do. But, the main reason for this get-together is to allow the people coming to be able to talk to Covino & Rich, maybe have a chance to sit in during the show, and do some stuff after hours and have C&R attend. We know Covino goes to the West Coast on Friday nights and doesn't come back to New York until early Tuesday morning. Therefore, I felt the only way to assure that there's a chance for Covino to be around is to plan a meeting mid-week.

I do see the pros of something like Thursday through Sunday. People wouldn't have to take as many days off of work. However, that would force any non-show meeting with C&R to be on Thursday. Covino wouldn't be around to do anything on any other day unless he skipped an LA trip, but I would never ask him to do that. The show visit could then be on Friday, and then any other dudebro functions could be done Saturday.

I guess my whole feeling is that I want the people coming to be able to hang out with C&R first and foremost. That gives the dudebros a chance to meet C&R, and it allows C&R to still do what they need to do in their relationship/family life and still meet and interact with a big group of their listeners. I would be totally fine with either option; I suppose I was just being cautious in not wanting to mess up anything C&R does outside the show. But, if that makes it too difficult for people to attend, that doesn't help either.

Just for me the first week of June is out. I've got time share in Cozumel and it's a yearly dive trip down there. The 8th-10th "might" work....have to check and see.

My sister flew to Michigan from Colorado and all she did was bitch about how much airfare has gone up. From what I gather, it is probably smarter to fly, because I am not paying $25 a day to park my effin car... That is ridiculous.

I do have vacation time that I can use, but I'll have to check with my guy... His challenge is his daughter (not bringing her with us, just making sure that we don't screw her out of daddy/daughter time..
Just because someone can call me Mom now doesn't mean I am gonna be Betty Freakin Cocker and bake any pies.

I wonder if Covino would hang around for the weekend, or have Layla and the baby come to NY that weekend. I would bet everyone would love to meet Layla and Sara as well. Of course, like Mercer, I would NEVER ask him to do that, but I wonder if he would do such a thing for the dudebros. Make that the weekend Layla comes east coast and they can all participate in weekend activities.

It would be absolutely awesome if everyone could be in NY for that week. :-) By that time Melody will be 6 months old; maybe that is old enough for her to travel? I'm definitely not going to ask for that though.

I was thinking about this last night at work. I'm almost wondering if we could do some sort of "Dudebro Week" in order to accommodate more people. Like I said, I'm going to take the whole week off anyway, so I can probably meet/coordinate whatever no matter what day people arrive. If most people can do Tuesday to Thursday, that would be good...but if some people can only do something closer to the weekend, they could try for Thursday through Saturday. We would still have to coordinate any major gathering for Thursday, but at least people could come and participate if they wanted. The people coming for the weekend would have to be aware that they might not be able to do any after-show functions with C&R, but at least they would be able to visit the show on Friday, perhaps. Any dudebros that are around could hang out and do whatever on the weekend.

On the C&R forum, June 8-10 has 17 "yes" votes and 8 "no" votes. I'd say that is a good enough percentage to make those dates a starting point. If some of you can't do a mid-week gathering, then maybe the rest can come when they can (hopefully Thursday).

Let's try to get this settled by Friday; I'd like to announce a final decision on the show that day.

Technically, babies can travel almost right away. One of my best friends just had two kids back to back (his wife was prego for two years straight!). After each was born, they flew with in a week to his parents in Florida. I asked him about it and he said that the doctors said there is no problem with an infant traveling almost immediately. Of course if the parents do not want to, that is indeed their choice to make, I am just saying technically they can travel.

If June 8-10 are the days, then the weekend should be Thursday the 3rd to Sunday the 6th. I know that is a wrap around weekend, but it works out best.

People, we need more input please.

Here is what I am going to do. I am going to get in NYC on Thursday June 3rd. I want to go to the Yankees/Orioles game that night, as it is the only time the Yankees are home for both proposed dates of this trip. The Mets are also home that weekend against FLA and those tickets should be cheap and easy. I am staying until Thursday the 10th. This is going to be our summer vacation I think.

That will allow me to overlap the weekend that leads in our voting, catch games and events and catch the dates Mercer and the guys from TOMB want also. While I have absolute LEE no desire to hang with Josh and Dildo (who I think will not show anyway), I really want to meet BDH, IB, EddieyourDJ, Joe Fiore and a few others.

My wife and sister are going with me and we are probably staying in Manhattan. I am not sure where exactly yet, it depends on how many award points I can get between now and then. We may end up changing hotels once.

The show. I would plan on going Friday as well as helping Mercer with getting everyone up there the next week as well. If you only come for the weekend, you can join me Friday.

Things to do, not that I will be doing them all, but I might.

Statue of Liberty, Coney Island, Empire State Building (despite what Josh has said in the past, the ESB at night is much better than 1 Rock), WTC sight, broadway shows, Mets Game, Yankees game, concert if there are any decent ones there at that time, Museum of Sex (I have not been there, but have heard it is very good), shopping :duh: , Central Park, Chinatwon, Little Italy, etc etc.

A little further away: Sopranos tour of north Jersey, I have done this, it's fun, need a car. Covino tour of Union :j/k: . Silent Bob's comic book stop, or a Kevin Smith tour of Norht Jersey, need a car, about 45 minute drive.

One thing my sister and I have already talked about is, we are going to swing by Seaside Heights on the way and take some silly pictures with the Jersey Shore house and some other landmarks from the show, like the clubs they go to, the place they worked and signs of Seaside Heights.

OK, that's it for now. Oh yeah, I am most likely driving.

Here is what I need. Please everyone post.

1. Are you possibly coming and which dates, if not all of them?

2. How would you get there? Plane, train, automobile?

3. What is your hotel nightly budget, I can help find a decent place, as I am familiar with hotels all over the area.

4. What is a MUST SEE for you?

Again, please, everyone post. We need to get this thing kind of locked up soon.

Here is who I think is probably in at this point:

Me
Iva
Joe
Paul
Derick
Brian
DaveP
AirHej

The rest of you either have not piped in or live further away. But I will not know unless you say something.

OH YEAH. I NEED EVERYONE to vote on the poll in this thread also. It has been changed several times.

I have been talking talking it over with my husband as I really want to go and don't want to miss out on all the fun. I have been waiting for a definate dates, that will be deciding factor. I chose midweek because for my husband and I will not affect us work wise too much. I have holidays and he only works Friday - Sunday.
My husband DOES NOT fly, he is terrified that he will die so most likely we'd be driving... I don't know what we would take to drive or if we would be taking our son with us. If we leave Mike behind then we will have room to pick up people if wanted.
I get panic attacks when I spend too much money so keep the hotel prices reasonable.. like $120 is a starting point in the panic attack, $200 and you'll have to take me to the hospital.
As for sites... I'd like to see anything possible. I've never been to the east coast before so I would try and catch anything possible. Definately be up for a ball game or two.

I voted midweek. I'll be driving if I go. The date doesn't really matter, I'll go whenever it is. I'd like to keep the nightly cost below $150. I don't have any "must sees", I'll do whatever.

I won't be able to make it this year. Hopefully we have one again and I'll try to make it to that one.

I think to overlap would be good, that way if you wanted to sight see or drink in a bar you could and maybe stay over night 1 or 2 nights.
