2/3/2010 Wednesday...

Since we are on the subject of bad news, my grandma has been in the hospital for awhile, and she will probaly die. It's ok though because she is very old, and has been in a wheel chair and nursing home for the last few years. I'm actually kind of surprised she hasn't passed yet.

My other grandma is only 65, so hopefully she has many more years left.

There was this dumb chick named sarah on Stern this morning. She has been on before I think. She is so freaking hilarious to me for some reason. I think she was in the worlds strongest naked chick contest, then they used her for a trivia game. Real funny stuff.

How is your mom doing today?

I'll be joining you... My mom is having heart surgery today.

Hope everything goes ok with your mom today B. Geez you two are being Debbie Downer's today.

I am aiming to be optimistic. All they are doing is going in to look for a blockage and possibly put a stent in. I hear that it is a fairly common procedure and that she might even get sent home tonight.
Just because someone can call me Mom now doesn't mean I am gonna be Betty Freakin Cocker and bake any pies.

Thanks Iva and everyone! I said a prayer for both our moms last night.

I can honestly say I would be lost if anything happened to my mom.

My father in law had a triple by pass, almost two years ago. He made it through good and recovered. The doctor said if he stopped smoking he'll most likely live another 25-30 years. The day he had his heart attack is the day both my inlaws quit smoking. I'm sure you'll mom will be fine!!

It's still difficult regardless, but at least she lived a long life.

I hope so, I came to work (she told me to), but the hospital is less than 10 minutes away. I just need to get her to quit stressing, she doesn't drink or smoke.

A nice long life. So, how long do you think you'll be sticking around for? I hope I make it to a decent age, but I don't want to be in a rest home.

Have at. The details I know are that they detected a blockage and they are going in to look for it and deal with it if they need to.

they detect the blockage by injecting dye into the arteries and looking at the body under a fluoroscope, blood flow can be seen due to the dye, so a blockage can be detected by lack of movement. Once they find the blockage they will insert a catheter into a large artery/vein, usually the femoral, which runs up the leg, use the catheter to remove the clot basically by grabbing it and pulling it out, if that isnt possible they will insert a stent to aid blood flow past/through the blockage.

Its not a huge deal to have a blockage, the body has a natural compensation method, depending upon where the blockage occured it could just be left alone. The risk is that the blockage moves and becomes lodged in a different part of the body, ie lungs/brain, where it could become a real problem, so that is why they are removing it.

All in all, a couple hours at the most, its usually done under mild sedation.
