there is something to be said for checking the temperature of my house when I'm not home (from my laptop or phone) I have been looking at Nest, which one did you get? In the state's it would be branded as a "filtrete"

I've looked into Z-Wave. Once you get it started, you can add to it, and control lights, temps, door locks, cameras, everything from your phone or internet.
One day I might end up going through with it.

Cost is what's holding me back, it's just not worth it.
To get a decent set up, I can see it costing about a thousand.

Electronic switches, control panels, and the time, you're looking at a few grand.
My buddy does it for a living and said it's really pricey

One day I might end up going through with it. The local technology writer did a story on programmable thermostats and home automation over the weekend. I didn't know Cocmast was in this too

We are listening to sirius preview channel, my boss has no idea why they shut off his service. He's pissed, on the phone with sirius right now.

I had some ceiling fans that were remote controlled. Shit was awesome. To be able to integrate that into a phone app would be double awesome.

Right, I was just thinking about a decent start.
Door locks, thermostat, and maybe a few lights.
But I like that you can add to it over time.
I'm planning on moving in 5 to 10 years, the more I think about it, I wouldn't do anything until then.

You could control the ceiling fan, blinds, thermostat, lights, unlock the front door to let someone in, a lazy man's dream come true.
