Speaking of mechanics, I only take my car in if I have to.

A couple weeks ago, my car wouldn't shift out of park.
Because this tine little pink hook holding this tine spring broke off...


So I had to take apart my entire center console...


So I could drill a hole in the pink thing and re-attach the spring.


I think the dealership would have had to replace the whole assembly. God knows what it would have cost in total.
Instead it took me about an hour and a half, and no money at all.

I had the linkage come apart on the 5spd in my Pontiac right at the transmission because of a worn bushing. The fuckin dealer wouldn't sell me just the bushing and cotter pin. They wanted to sell me the whole fuckin cable assembly for $119. Went to the local hardware store here and was able to find one about the same size along with a cotter pin. Worked like a charm and only cost me $1.19. Had to do the same thing at the shifter end a couple years later.
