No it's still free to download and use to remove stuff. You have to pay for real time protection.

If you went to a website that is asking you to pay right away you went to the wrong site. I've done that before.

No. it says the trial version is done and I need to upgrade.

Real time protection is going to stop working. It's not going to block anything from now on, but you can launch it to do cleanups if you think you got infected.
