Too late now but i'd like to know for future reference.
I had a check engine light on my 97 rodeo. For the hell of it i went to autozone and used their code reader. It was the egr valve. I didn't care and drove it like that for like a year.
I just had to go through emissions to re-register though, and i knew i wouldn't pass with the light on, so i changed it. It cost me like $170. The one for my s-10 was only 60 bucks so i was like Wtf?
Anyway i got it though, but my buddy was telling me i could have just cleaned the carbon build-up out of the old one and been fine. Did i just waste $170?
