When I had to use it, I only had to drive on it for a mile and a half.  But I stopped twice to make sure it was still on securely, and inflated.  
It was crazy, I had no idea what was going on but the whole front of my car felt like it was floating and swaying.

That's weird. Does your tire installing company sell tire replacement certficates?  Canadian Tire sells a "Free" tire replacement on any tire purchased through them.  It costs $7/tire but lasts for the life of the tire.  It's free replacement if there is any manufacturer defect.  If the sidewall is hooped from running it low or you got a nail in it, they will pro rate the tire based on usage and give you a discount on the new tire.
