Rooty Tooty

Still haven't found a solid reason to root an android phone, but I did anyway. It's kind of fun learning about this stuff. Never ever thought about how a computer operated, just used them.

So far, I have replaced the start up droid icon, with a Denver Bronco logo. I changed the font on the phone. And I have optimus prime blowing shit up, when I drag my notification screen down.

I've gotten several free apps, and some paid, that have to have a rooted phone to install. The paid ones I got after the using the free trial versions. I have not regretted spending the money yet. 15 bucks total.

I am going to install a ROM next. When I figure it out. I blanked my phone out last night. twice. Had to use a backup I had on an microSD card at work. Still lost alot of new stuff I had done since that backup was made though.

Free apps that require root I've downloaded and kept.

Titanium Backup.
Total system backup to sd card. This saved my phone, several times already.

ROM Manager.
basic Romming shit I guess.

ROM Toolbox.
same as above, but with more stuff you can control.

Root Browser.
Look at, and manage all the files on your phone. ALL OF THEM. Kind of a dangerous thing to goof with, for me anyway. Free version limits what you can damage though.

System Tuner.
Set up CPU speeds, kernals, memory partitions and a ton of other things I don't understand yet.

Root uninstaller.
Remove apps that you couldn't remove before. Some are dangerous to remove, and there are lists on line of what is safe or not. You can freeze the apps too, and I guess they are still there, but don't do anything. Another thing I need to learn about.

Screenshot.
Able to take screen shots of phone. cool I guess. I've only used it to send my Mom and sister pics of optimus prime on my notification screan. Then I get all tech pompous with them, because they are the only people I know that are wowed by my elementary skills.

Paid apps I've gotten.

upgraded to full Rom Manager. Makes things a little easier, you have more options, and you get better ROMs to download. 4.99

upgraded to ROM Toolbox pro. This was a good move. It does everything that the free apps I listed do. It actually does them the same as the pro versions. So this is the paid app to get. All in one root tool pretty much. 5.99

Droid x bootstrapper. Don't know what the fuck it does, how it does it, or when it does it, but some shit wasn't working right until I installed it. 2.99

Forgot a couple free apps.

WiFi key recovery. Supposed to give you the passcode to locked wifi networks. Haven't gotten one yet, haven't tried really either.

Tried almost every wireless tether app out there. Nothing worked. Verizon has that shit pretty controlled now I guess.

some links of stuff.

one click root for any Android. I never personally found a one click easy method, so.

I do need to warn you, that having a rooted phone makes you masturbate everywhere and not remember doing it. Apparently, so use caution.

Future things I would like to learn how to do.

Design a phone theme, and then do all the file things, that will make it work, and offer it to people to download and use. Then when I start making really bad ass ones, charge money .

Develop a ROM.
Seeing as how I don't actually know what ROM stands for at this time, this one might be awhile.

Develop an app
These seem pretty simple to do actually, depending on what it is. Lots of app building programs out there.

Does DBN need an app? What would a DBN app do anyway?
I would buy a DBN app from the market
