Cure for Breast Cancer
#1
So it appears that someone found a cure for breast cancer and no one will give them money to finish the testing so it can start saving lives.

WTF is wrong with society?

Here is an idea, the government can get them the money by cutting welfare.

There's too much money in the treatment part for them to want to release the cure. It's sad. There's a cancer walk next weekend. I don't think I will be able to collect money for it, but I think I might grab the step-kiddo and walk in it if the weather is decent.
Just because someone can call me Mom now doesn't mean I am gonna be Betty Freakin Cocker and bake any pies.

Someone should get the money from the Susan G Komen foundation. They've made a fortune on the misfortune of others.

Obviously I am the most pro-more money for research guy here, as that is what I do. I think if they are on the right track they should be getting more money. Problem is both the government has cut national grant funding, due to the economy and private grants are down because people are not donating as much money due to the economy. So this "industry" has been doubly hit.

The health community would not be opposed to curing cancer vs treating it based on money. Every medical insurance would back the cure as it would save them TONS of money as would anyone who is ethical. Not to mention the notoriety of researchers, and the advances in other areas of biology it would spurn.

The one thing that gives me pause is that they claim its 100% effective- nothing in the biomedical sciences is 100%. Also there have been tons and tons of "cancer cures" that have been reported in the media that under further evaluation fail, for example earlier this year:

The best one I have seen so far this year is the Leukemia treatment (even then it was only 70%), http://abcnews.go.com/Health/breakthrou ... d=14283544 .

Terrible reporter...

That aside, with the amount of money that is going into "awareness" this month i'm sure the research could be more than funded. The company I use to work for actually budgeted money every October for BC awareness events to raise money. I think they budgeted more money than they raised, haha.

I did a 5K run last Sunday for the Breast Cancer research, I have been doing it for the last 4 years. My godmother was diagnosed with breast cancer 6 years ago and it's remission now. She wakes up every morning and thanks god she's alive. Her daughter is only 18... it's so sad... it's such a terrible disease.
I have a bunch of friends that grow a mustache for "Movember", it's to raise money for men's health (prostate cancer & what not)... If I remember I'll post a picture of some of them...
