AOL And Yahoo Merger
#1
AOl learned nothing from their merger with Time Warner in the early 2000's.

Reports are coming out that AOL is talking to Yahoo’s bankers about merging the two companies in the wake of Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz getting canned. We have an independent source who confirms discussions are happening, but it is not clear how serious they are. If a deal does go through, the likeliest scenario would be Yahoo acquiring AOL, with Tim Armstrong becoming the new CEO. (Disclosure: AOL owns TechCrunch).

While a combination of AOL and Yahoo is always an option, with the main advantage being that it solves Yahoo’s leadership search problem if Armstrong becomes the CEO, it is not a particularly good option. Two dogs don’t make a right (at least in the eyes of Wall Street).

I had a Netscape email, which still exists as Netscape, but also registers as an AOL email now. I loved the Netscape platform, but when AOL took it over, it went to crap. I love using Yahoo! I have a few yahoo email accounts that I use as my main emails. Now, AOL is going to ruin those on me. FML. Confusedad:

I used to use Netscape too but haven't used it in years. I didn't know it was still out there branded as Netscape.

Didn't Netscape become Firefox?

I was at a hotel this weekend that had instructions next to the internet port on how to get the internet to work on Netscape.

Netscape was a great Mac browser prior to Safari and the first IE for Mac was solid. Microsoft changed the IE browser so I solely used Netscape until Safari. There were a bunch of others that never got traction; Oprah, iCab and others. I still use Safari as my primary Mac browser but use Firefox. RockMelt is the one I use primarily at work, I really like it.
