PC Recommendation help
#1
My wife needs a new computer for work but she works for a small company and contract their IT support. Since they do not have an IT department, they have to buy their won PC's and than have the contractor configure them. As you all know I am a Apple fan (and according to Pete a Fanboy) and don't know a lot about PCs. Here is a recommendation she got for her new laptop;
- Sandy Bridge quad core configuration with the graphics chip (GPU) on the same chip as the CPU.
- 64 bit Windows 7 professional
- 6 GB of ram
- 750 GB hard drive
- Both wireless (n) and Bluetooth.
This was for a HP but I have not heard good things about HP. Any recommendations?

Build your own. That's the only advice you need. Get the parts from pricewatch.com...it's a clearinghouse for PC parts advertisers. You'll save a shitload of money and if something ever breaks it's an easy fix...which beats the hell out of dealing with proprietary parts.

For someone who's not into PC's, I wouldn't recommend building your own computer. I usually stay away from the big name brand PC's (Dell, HP). I've always bought Acer and Sytemax PC's from Tigerdirect and never had issues, most with comparable specs to what you are looking for and not too expensive. But if she is getting reimbursed by her work, then go all out and get a Dell with a service contract.

My company is a Dell partner so I deal with them daily. Precision is probably their best standard line for business although most of my clients buy the Latitude.

I happened to be logged into my Dell Premier account when I was reading this so I did a quick build.

I had a Toshiba Satellite for over two years and absolutely loved it. Now I have an HP that I don't particularly like for no reason at all.
Everything I say is not true and all things I claim to have done or do are just made up for argument sake!!

Joe, is their a manufacture you would recommend over another? She currently has a Dell but the IT guy found an HP.

Thoughts?

HP - I just can't get into their laptops although I prefer their servers. I have a guy that gets these at large discounts so I've setup a few people with these and never heard any complaints.

Dell - Many people like to hate on them, but hey do a pretty good job if you buy the right warranty. I work with Dell products more than anything. There isn't anything that would stop me from buying one.

Lenovo - Lenovo is my personal favorite. My home computer for the last 3 years has been the Lenovo T60 Wide Screen that I am using right now. I had a hardware issue with it once and I sent it back to them. They had it back to me in 2 days. All of my previous laptops have been Lenovo. My biggest complaint is that they are usually expensive.

Asus - 2009 and 2010 they were ranked in the top 3. My father bought one and I think it's awesome. I'd really look into these.

Never hear anyone complain, but I hate all Sony products.

Check this out....you never said if you wanted a laptop or a desktop. If you can grab one of the HP Elite's at these prices you'd be hard pressed to find a better deal.

I'd still build my own though.
