My thoughts on an added wildcard:

It will be good in the National League where there is more parity. In the American League, it just means the Yankees and Red Sox will ALWAYS be in the playoffs.

If you want to "fix" baseball, create a hard salary cap and floor.

why not have both Pennsylvania teams in opposite leagues

Why? The Pirates are actually closer in travel time to the Nationals, Orioles, Reds, Tigers and Indians than the Phillies.

If the Pirates were in the AL, they would be even worse.
