I have also signed many contracts that say that I will not:
- Do my own work on the side
- Work for another IT company
- Leave this company for another IT company within 50 miles
- Leave this company to get hired by one of my clients
When I worked for Canadian Tire my svc manager pulled me aside and asked me if I was going to work for Max (he was a former employee who was now the manager of Denray Tire). I didn't lie... although Max had asked me to come bust tires for him several times it wasn't him I had an interview with... three days later as he was leaving for Jamaica for a holiday I quit to leave for Maxim. It was great! His face was priceless!
