I have no idea how this works.

You pick 5 drivers for your roster. You can change your roster any time. Whatever points your 5 drivers get in the race, that's the points that you get for that race.

Yeah, but I don't understand what drivers to get for each race. I try to pick the best guys of stats and I am almost last. It makes no sense to me.

I mainly pick them based on how they qualify and how they did during practice and happy hour.
