Typical Problems
Problems arise when employers fail to recognize and count certain hours worked as compensable hours. For example, an employee who remains at his/her desk while eating lunch and regularly answers the telephone and refers callers is working. This time must be counted and paid as compensable hours worked because the employee has not been completely relieved from duty.
these are the FEDERAL guidleines
I know lot's of people who work through lunch. Employers will find away around it.
During busy season we don't make our staff take lunch. A lot of them bag lunch it so they can eat and drive, do the work faster and get home faster.
When they are in the shop working in the off season they are required to stop and take a lunch.
