I sprained my ankle so bad once that I couldn't walk on it for a week, and even then I was able to "walk it off" to the point where I could finish my soccer game.

yeah, if i was stranded in the woods. I think I'd try to keep my dog around for as long as possible. hell. i'd rather eat a squirrel that the dog killed and drug back than my own dog. Also I think the companionship of having your dog with you would be a huge psychological boost in that situation.
