I've heard good thinks about PingChat. I've used it very little because I have no one to ping with.

I think that Groupme is BY FAR the best service and has only 1 drawback, but it is a BIG drawback in that it eats major battery life on 50% of the phone out there.

I actually liked Cnecdt, but it stopped sending me notifications a few weeks ago and I have to update it to get new messages, that sucks.

Google + is the 100% way to go once it hits blackberry, it is a great chat app and does not use battery. Once Blackberry gets it's head out of it's ass and gets google +, that had to be the way to go. Groupme is better, but google + doesn't eat battery.

Groupme chat is in beta, I am sure that one day the battery issue will be fixed. You can still get the chat on SMS without battery drain.
